It's interesting that this is being marketed as a children's book. It's bleak and sad, full of abandonment, dastardly characters with no remorse, loss of hope, and death, while untempered by any humor. (This is not to say it's bad.) It's just no fun. There's very little action & the adventure is psychological. The Wonder Show does not even enter the story until at least one-third through and it primarily serves as a backdrop for the young main character's personal growth and attempts to begin to control the direction of her own life. The blurbs and reviews for this book that praise it so highly seem to me like nothing more than Jackal's midway patter, luring customers into the tent.
