I gave up at the end of disk 2.

This book has a fascinating premise: After WWII, in the wake of the failure of the state of Israel, the United States sets up a temporary (multi-decade) safe haven for Jews in Alaska, with Yiddish as the national language. This could have been an inventive science fiction story, or an alternative social history of the 50s, 60s, and 70s with a merging of Jewish and Native Alaskan cultures, but instead it was just irritating.
