What Jamie SawWhat Jamie Saw by Carolyn Coman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Told from Jamie's 9 year-old perspective, this is a very moving story of a family coping with physical abuse. The story opens with Van, Jamie's baby sister's father, lifting the baby from the crib and throwing her towards the wall. Jamie's mother miraculously catches the baby and immediately packs her children into the car to leave Van's house and go . . . where? Coman captures the uncertainty of fleeing a violent home, and also the love that is good between parent and child and brother and sister. A quick read, appropriate for 6th graders and up.
